International Day of Girl Child 2022

The International Day of the Girl Child is observed every year on October 11 to recognize the rights, achievements, and potential of girls while drawing attention to the challenges that may prevent them from reaching their full potential.

The Young and Women Initiative (YAWI) joined communities around the world in recognizing the importance of creating opportunities for girls to learn, grow, participate, and make their voices heard. The event provided an opportunity to engage young people and the wider community in conversations around issues affecting the girl child.

Through awareness and meaningful engagement, YAWI continues to support conversations that encourage girls to understand their rights, express themselves confidently, and become active contributors to their communities. Creating these opportunities is important not only for individual girls but also for the development of stronger and more inclusive communities.

The programme focused on the importance of education, confidence, inclusion, protection, and equal opportunities for girls. It also highlighted the need for families, communities, institutions, and other stakeholders to play an active role in creating an environment where every girl can develop her abilities and pursue her aspirations.
