YAWI Supports Three-Day Anti-FGM Awareness Programme to Empower Girls and Women
The Young and Woman Initiative (YAWI), in collaboration with the Value Female Network Coalition/Networks, successfully participated in a three-day Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) programme held from 2nd to 4th June 2026. The initiative was designed to educate, empower, and inspire young girls and women while raising awareness about the harmful effects of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The programme created a safe and interactive learning environment where participants gained a deeper understanding of the dangers of FGM and the importance of protecting the rights, health, and well-being of girls and women.
Throughout the three-day event, participants received Comprehensive Life Skills Education, covering essential topics including:
- Puberty and adolescent development
- Healthy relationships and responsible dating
- Drug abuse prevention
- Building self-esteem and confidence
- Decision-making and critical thinking
- Personal growth and leadership
These sessions equipped participants with practical knowledge and life skills to make informed decisions, resist harmful practices, and become positive role models within their communities.
The programme also encouraged participants to reject Female Genital Mutilation, drug abuse, and all forms of violence while promoting healthy lifestyles, confidence, mutual respect, and positive relationships.
YAWI remains committed to advocating for the rights of girls and women and working alongside partners to eliminate harmful traditional practices through education, awareness, and community engagement.
