Every 25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, established in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly.
The campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
The day is also known as Orange Day because the color orange is widely recognized by UN Women to symbolize a future without violence against women.
The theme for International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2023 is “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”
Be supportive: keep yourself, your family, and your community healthy and protected. Say no to any form of violence – including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, or economic violence. Nothing can be an excuse for violence against women.
