In celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, The Young and Woman Initiative (YAWI) visited Olubadan High School, Adekile, Ibadan, to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among students.

With the theme “Periods Should Never Stop Potential,” the programme encouraged girls to embrace menstruation with confidence while challenging the stigma and misconceptions that often surround it.

During the awareness session, participants were educated on:

  • Understanding menstrual health and hygiene
  • Breaking the silence and ending menstrual stigma
  • Proper menstrual hygiene management
  • Building confidence and self-esteem
  • The importance of creating a period-friendly environment

The session also encouraged open conversations about menstruation, empowering girls with accurate information and reinforcing the message that no girl should be limited by her period.

At YAWI, we remain committed to promoting menstrual health education and advocating for a world where every girl has access to the knowledge, support, and resources needed to manage her menstrual health with dignity.

Together, we can build a period-friendly world where every girl is empowered to learn, lead, and achieve her full potential.
